Classic ikat from the island of Sumba with golden and burnt orange tones. Fabulous on a sofa, bed or a wall hanging. Ikat is an ancient technique which is used to add patterns to textiles. The designs are created in the yarns rather than on the finished cloth, resulting in both sides patterned with bold contrasting colors. Sumbanese textiles are deeply personal; they follow a distinct systematic form but also show the individuality of the weavers and the villages where they are produced. Internationally, Sumbanese textiles are collected as examples of textile designs of the highest quality and are found in major museums around the world, as well as in the homes of collectors.
Hinggi are large blankets decorated with warp ikat used as men’s clothing. They are usually made in pairs. We have a pair. The price reflects one. We only source the best.
