A beautiful sculptural antique bowl from Sumatra. Circa 1900. We added by hand shells inlaid into the outer top section. It’s all in the details. Full dimensions; Top 15″ diameter x 10″ high x bottom 10″ diameter.
This antique bowl was sourced in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility.
