A century old teak block is hand carved into this beautiful low chair or side table. We added the inlaid butterfly detail in the front and back section. Left in the sun and sea salt air to lighten and reveal the unique wood grain. It’s all in the details. Both usable and sculptural. Full dimensions; 15.5″ wide x 12″ deep x 11.5″ seat height x total 17″ high.
This chair or side table was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
