Beautiful aged teak wood hand carved chair. An impressive single block of wood has been hand carved into this solid teak sculptural chair whilst respecting the natural organic wood. We have a set of four. The price and images reflect the one shown. Full dimensions; 21″ deep x 20″ wide x 20″ seat height x 25” back rest x 44” total height. A usable and sculptural piece of art. We added a natural oil revealing the stunning rich wood grain.
This chair was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
