77.5 x 12.5 x 20″ high
An impressive century old thick teak wood panel from my finest collection, has been repurposed into this one of a kind bench or chaise. Both usable and sculptural. We added mid century style legs in contrast to the top. Beautiful patina on this ancient wood. It’s all in the details. Full dimensions; 77.5” wide x 12.5” deep x 15.5” seat height x 20” back rest height.
This bench or chaise was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
