19″ wide x 16.5″ deep x 29″ high.
Beautiful chair hand carved from a single reclaimed teak wood block. Both usable and sculptural. This can also be used as a side table. The seat and back are one piece of wood with added four minimalist cylinder legs and butterfly details. The unique patina and grain on this century old wood is hard to capture in an image. Full dimensions; 19″ wide x 16.5″ deep x 18″ seat height x 29″ total height x seat 5” thick.
This chair was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
