An impressive 100 year old teak root, with a rare rock formation. This natural process occurs as the teak root attaches itself to the rocks below. The root grows together organically with rocks thus forming a unique structure. We enhance the beauty of this natural formation by lightly bleaching the entire root to reveal the beautiful wood grain, while the rocks themselves are cleaned to reveal their natural beauty. Both sculptural and functional. We can level this out and add a base and height for a coffee table.
This rare versatile piece of art was sourced in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
