Beautiful antique Ikat textile from the island of Sumba, fully backed in a luxurious soft suede. The stripes seem modern yet mixed with the traditional motif panel, work so well together. Ikat is an ancient technique which is used to add patterns to textiles. Fabulous on a sofa, bed or to wear as a shawl. A perfect example of the old with the new. Sumbanese textiles are deeply personal; they follow a distinct systematic form but also show the individuality of the weavers and the villages where they are produced. Internationally, Sumbanese textiles are collected as examples of textile designs of the highest quality and are found in major museums around the world. The designs are created in the yarns rather than on the finished cloth, resulting in both sides patterned with bold contrasting colors. Multiple colors and complicated patterns are difficult to create. We only source the best.
