Beautiful antique ceremonial sarong from Bali. There are so many uses for these soft cotton batiks. Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to the entire textile. We have a collection. This one is sewn into a circle to step into and roll around the waist. Open, the size is 54” x 41”. Any holes should not be considered as imperfect. Perfection is imperfection.
This sarong was sourced in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
