DESCRIPTION

Ngombe Congo royal throne, said to be a queens stool or tabouret denoting prestige and high status. From the general area along the Congo river, West Africa. Hand carved from a formidable, heavy wood with brass and iron nail studs. 17″ x 12 ” wide center x 10″ wide at the ends x 9″ high at the center and 11″ high at each end.

This stool was sourced in the spirit of wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
