Beautiful soft Ikat in hard to source indigo and white textile from Sumba. Fabulous on a sofa, bed, a wall hanging, or even to wear as a shawl. Ikat is an ancient technique which is used to add patterns to textiles. The designs are created in the yarns rather than on the finished cloth, resulting in both sides patterned with bold contrasting colors. Sumbanese textiles are deeply personal; they follow a distinct systematic form but also show the individuality of the weavers and the villages where they are produced. Internationally, Sumbanese textiles are collected as examples of textile designs of the highest quality and are found in major museums around the world, as well as in the homes of collectors. Hinggi are large blankets decorated with warp ikat used as men’s clothing. Indigo are the rarest. We only source the best.
