Three beautiful containers hand carved from century old mahogany wood. These are all solid wood and are therefore stable to stand in an entry or in a covered area outside. Both usable and sculptural. The slim neck of the containers are hollow. Full dimensions; 32″ high x 14″ diameter x 6” inside top hollow, 28″ high x 12” diameter x 6.5” inside top hollow, 25” high x 11” diameter x 5” inside top hollow. Polished with a natural oil revealing the unique wood grain. It’s all in the details.
This set of three containers were hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
