Impressive patina on this ancient teak wood. We nursed this beautiful 200 year old log back to life and hand carved to produce this one of a kind bench. Finished with a natural oil revealing the unique wood grain. It’s all in the details. Both usable and sculptural. Full dimensions; 68” wide x 17” deep x 13” high placed direct on the floor. We also supply two wood bases as shown in the final images, which allows the log to float two inches off the floor at 15” high. It’s all in the details.
This bench was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
