Stunning patina on this ancient teak wood. Originally used on the opposite side as partially hollow, for storing rice. We turned it around and added two minimalist platform bases to produce this one of a kind log style beautiful bench. This impressive piece floats three inches off the floor. Finished with a natural oil revealing the unique wood grain. It’s all in the details. Both usable and sculptural. Full dimensions; 134” wide x 20” deep x 17” total height.
This bench or art piece was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
