Beautiful teak on this low chair that can also be used as a side table. The back rest and seat are hand carved from a single piece of wood. We added minimalist legs and small butterfly details inlaid into the seat section and smoothed out the natural hole. Both usable and sculptural. Full dimensions; 18″ deep x 16.5 “ narrowing to 14” wide x 10” seat height x back rest 14” high.
This chair or side table were sourced in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
