Rare Bold Indigo Sumba Textile

Beautiful soft Ikat on this rare bold indigo and white textile from Sumba. Fabulous on a sofa, bed, a wall hanging, or even to wear as a shawl. Mythical characters, lizards, horses and birds intermingle in this graphic Hinggi cloth. Ikat is an ancient technique which is used to add patterns to textiles. The designs are created in the yarns rather than on the finished cloth, resulting in both sides patterned with bold contrasting colors. Sumbanese textiles are deeply personal; they follow a distinct systematic form but also show the individuality of the weavers and the villages where they are produced.
