39″ x 30″
Beautiful antique ceremonial sarong from Bali. There are so many uses for these soft cotton batiks. Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to the entire textile. We have a collection. All worn, soft antique sarongs. This one is sewn into a circle to step into and roll around the waist. Opened the size is 60”x 90”. Any holes should not be considered as imperfect. Perfection is imperfection.
This sarong was sourced in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a Wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot.
